vh5tape makes MiniMax H3 footage look like a worn 1980s VHS recording, with tracking noise, chroma bleed and matching tape-hiss audio. Three prompt-controlled damage levels.

vh5tape (Hugging Face) is a style LoRA by KennethFal that makes MiniMax H3 footage look like it was recorded off 1980s broadcast television onto a VHS tape that has seen better days: soft smeared detail, chroma bleed, tracking noise and head-switching bands at the frame edge. Because H3 trains audio jointly, the LoRA also renders the matching muffled mono sound, tape hiss and warble.

A prompt-controlled damage dial

The tape damage is not baked in: it is a dial with three trained levels, selected through the prompt itself. Order matters: trigger first, damage tier second, scene third.

Raw single takes at 480P / 4:3, none of the content in the training data.

Tips

  • Trigger: vh5tape goes at the very start of the prompt.
  • Scale: 1.0 for the full look; 0.7 to 0.9 softens the wear; up to 1.5 pushes toward barely-watchable tape (fun for horror).
  • Sound comes along for free: describe the audio ("muffled mono audio", "canned laughter", "cheesy jingle") and it renders tape-worn.
  • Dialogue: short explicit quoted lines (the host says: "It slices, it dices!") come through near-verbatim.
  • Period set dressing helps: wood paneling, studio lighting, 4:3 aspect ratio, era wardrobe.

Usage

The LoRA ships as a single vh5tape.safetensors file and works in ComfyUI with the standard H3 LoRA loading path: attach it to the H3 model node at the chosen strength, keep the trigger and damage phrase in the prompt, and set prompt expansion to balanced (this mode preserves the trigger and damage phrases). 480P / 4:3 is the period-correct sweet spot, but the style carries fine to higher resolutions.
